The continuous supply of Oxygen to the human and animal cells is crucially vital. A few minutes without oxygen can cause irreversible damage to the human brain tissues. Worldwide, millions of people die due to pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases and the world spends billions of Euros on treatment of these kinds of diseases. It will be important not only to monitor the current vital parameters like oxygen saturation in blood, but also to avoid sudden changes in these parameters, which can cause hazardous results or even death. It will be valuable to develop a device that can monitor vital parameters and fuse the data gathered from different sensors to enable a high quality early diagnostic for prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Adaptive Filters are necessary to enable the measurement under all conditions, where movement of the body portions where the sensor is applied can cause a high noise to the signal. Long term measurements can be then applied without inhibition of the patient activity. To achieve reliable results and diagnosis, the parameters and the decisions will be multi-parametric calculated using intelligent algorithms. Optical sensors for non-invasive detection of hemoglobin and glucose as well as imaging the tissue to enable the measurement of oxygen saturation and glucose distribution in tissue for cancer detection are under investigations.
